Earlier this season, top-10 finishes were a bit of a rarity for the Dolores High School boys' and girls' track teams.
Clearly rounding into form in recent weeks however, athletes on both teams have enjoyed a spate of top finishes, thus raising hopes for the rest of the season.
Most recently competing in Bayfield at the Pine River Invitational on April 19, the Bears were led by Rylan Huff, who finished fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.36), eighth in the 400 (1:02.57) and 10th in the 200 (25.31).
Also breaking into the top-10 for the boys' team, Tristan Holgate finished ninth in the 100 (12.88) and ninth in the 400 (1:05.08).
Other top finishers on the boys' side included Damian Marquez, who finished 11th in the 10 (12.98) and 11th in the 400 (1:05.08), and Kody Gregory, who finished 15th in the shot put (30 feet, 8¼ inches).
Leading the way for the girls' team, Brianna Schwartz finished first in the 100 hurdles (17.23) and second in the 300 hurdles (50.62).
Also turning in a top finish for the Bears, Taylor Elder finished first in the long jump (15 feet, 4¼ inches).
Pacing the Bears in the throwing events was Jessica Schliesser, who finished sixth in the discus (79 feet, 2 inches) and seventh in the shot put (26 feet, 2¼ inches).
Other Bears cracking the top-10 included Olivia Wright, who finished second in the 400 (1:04.28), Larissa Umberger, who finished third in the 300 hurdles (52.26), third in the 100 hurdles (18.47) and fourth in the long jump (14 feet, 4¾ inches) and Regan Umberger, who finished seventh in the 1600 (6:47.79).
Also enjoying a solid day for the girls' team, Kelly Charles finished ninth in the shot put (24 feet, 8 ¾ inches).
Next up for the Bears' track teams will be the B&B Aztec Invitational, which will take place in Aztec, April 25-26.
