When it comes to scheduling, the Dove Creek High School boys and girls track teams are not shy about competing in tough meets.
Thus, while Dove Creek’s team results may not always be pretty, the Bulldogs gain valuable experience that serves them well when the state track meet arrives.
Competing in the latest in a long line of difficult meets, the Bulldogs hit the track at the Montrose Invitational on April 25 and performed well.
Leading the girls team to a fifteenth place finish was Corissa Guynes, who finished fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.14) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (51.45).
Also performing well for the Bulldogs, Madison Young finished fifth in the shot put (35 feet, ½ inch) and eighth in the discus (101 feet, 2 inches).
Other top finishers for the girls’ team included Shelbie Knuckles, who finished 12th in the 300 hurdles (52.60) and Jessica Guynes, who finished 20th in the 400 (1:09.64).
Pacing the Bulldogs on the boys’ side, Taylor Hankins crossed the line nineteenth in the 300 hurdles (47.09) and 29th in 100 (12.18).
Chance Randolph finished 32nd in the 200 (26.47) and 33rd in the 400 (59.74), while Shane Fury finished 45th in the discus (76 feet).
Next up for the Bulldogs’ track teams will be the Grand Junction Tiger Invitational, which will take place, May 2-3, in Grand Junction.
