The 7 Rivers Farmers Market, a winter farmers market, will return for its second season Nov. 3.
This year, the market will take place from noon to 3 p.m. every Tuesday through April at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Last year, the market was held at the Powerhouse Science Center, but the market needed more space to accommodate added vendors and to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, said Amy Reid, organizer and owner of Jakes Farm.
To ensure vendors and customers are safe, all vendors will be required to wear masks and have hand sanitizer at their booths. Each booth will be separated by at least 6 feet. There will also be a hand-washing station in the building. Reid said she is encouraging vendors and customers to complete pre-orders online to limit the number of people in the building at one time.
Reid said she saw a need for a winter market last year because she knew a lot of farmers continued to meet with customers to sell produce after the summer market ended. She thought it would be better to have a central, and warm, meeting place.
“A customer who wants beef, poultry and cheese can come to just one location and get it,” Reid said.
