The 2014 primary election is just around the corner, campaign signs are going up and candidates are campaigning hard. This is an all-mail ballot election so with that in mind here are a few important dates to keep track of.
May 15 is the first date the unaffiliated candidates can begin circulating their petitions in order to place their name on the general election ballot.
We will be sending letters to the unaffiliated voters reminding them that in order for them to vote in this primary, they must affiliate with a party.
If you wish to affiliate, just fill out the back of the letter and return it to the Clerk’s Office. An unaffiliated voter will still be able to affiliate up to and on Election Day by coming into the Clerk’s Office and declaring. However, once you declare you will remain with that party unless you do a change of affiliation after the election.
The last day for voters who are affiliated with a political party to change or withdraw their affiliation if they wish to vote in a different party’s primary election is May 23.
We will be mailing ballots around June 6, so begin looking for them around that date. If you have moved or changed your address please contact the Clerk’s Office as soon as possible to update your registration. You may also look at your voter status online at Go Vote Colorado.com to either change your information or simply to look at how you are registered.
June 16 is the last day to submit an electronic change of address form or for the Clerk’s Office to receive your change by mail.
June 16 is also the last day to submit an application to register to vote through the online voter registration system.
June 17 is the last day to file an absentee application.
June 20 - 24 is the last day to request an in-person absentee ballot.
And finally June 24 is primary election day, and all ballots must be in the possession of the Clerk’s Office by 7 p.m. to be counted.
If you have any questions or do not receive a ballot, please contact the Clerk’s Office at 970-565-3728 or come by the office at 140 W. Main, St., Suite 1, Cortez, CO 81321 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
