City council actions

On Tuesday, May 13, the Cortez city council:
• Amended the city code to outlaw unauthorized dumping in trash dumpsters.
• Amended the city code to outlaw the use of a retarder on any motor vehicle.
• Awarded a $199,527 bid to Midwest Tar Sealer for seal coating and re-striping pavement at the airport.
• Awarded a low bid to One Track Communications for fiber conduit construction and installation for future customers. The city has $50,000 budgeted for the project in 2014.
• Awarded a $16,980 bid to One Track Communications to repair two fiber optic lines that were damaged during Industrial Road construction last summer. The complicated repair work is expected to impact all city customers.
• Authorized the creation of a Community Storybook for the Cortez Heart & Soul project at a price of $7,825.
• Awarded a three-year contract to Data Safe Services, at an annual cost of $106,066, for virtual desktop infrastructure and systems backup solution.
• Awarded a $10,887 bid to Elam Construction for asphalt parking lot repairs at the Parque de Vida playground shelter.
