The Mancos Public Library's 2014 Summer Reading Program theme is "Fizz, Boom, Read!"
Students ages 5 through 12 are invited to participate in the programs, which will run on Wednesdays 10:30 a.m. -noon on June 11 and 28, and Friday, June 27.
June 11: Boulder's own Playground Theater will entertain with classic tails with a twist. A bit of STEAM programing (Science, Technology, Engineering, ARTS, and Mathematics) to round out the science-infused summer reading program.
June 18: Bee experts from the Four Corners region will explain how important these little workers are for pollination and honey production. We will also do some fun bee-inspired art.
June 27: The library will host Astronomy Day and Night with the Four Corners Star Gazers. During the day, the library will be home to an indoor Planetarium. We will also have several activities about stars, star gazing, and the solar system to prep us for an evening star gazing party.
Registration is required for the program, and forms can be picked up at the library.
Wholesome snacks will be provided during each program. Younger children may attend (under 5) if accompanied by an adult throughout the program. We will also conduct a reading contest bingo for kids and a word challenge for teens with ice-cream when they are half-completed, and books of their choice as prizes for all who complete the bingo or word challenge. Teens who complete the word challenge are also eligible to win a GoPro camera or cash. Bingos and word challenges are not due in until mid-August. For more info:533-7600 and ask for Kate.
