Funeral services for lifelong area resident Neal Eddy will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel with interment following at the Cortez Cemetery.
Neal was born March 30, 1924 in Amarillo, Texas, the son of Clifford Neal and Lillian Matilda (Keeter) Eddy. He passed away at home Saturday, July 5, 2014, at the age of 90.
Neal and his family moved to Cahone when he was 16. They moved to Mancos, where they owned and ran the Gateway Gas Station. He worked in a uranium mine in Utah and owned an excavation company.
In 1949, Neal married Nancy Alexander. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary April 1, 2014.
Neal loved hunting and fishing, Polka music and boating on the Colorado River and McPhee Lake. He also loved building radio-controlled airplanes, was a master gardener and until recently he loved riding his four-wheeler.
Neal and Nancy spent the past eight winters traveling to Bouse, Ariz.
Surviving Neal is his beloved wife, Nancy Eddy of Cortez; his son, Jerry Eddy and wife, Oreen; daughter, Susan McAfee and husband, Dr. John McAfee of Carson City, Nev.; his brother, Tim and Marilyn Eddy of Pocatello, Idaho; three grandchildren, Jonathan Eddy of Denver, Andrew Eddy of Phoenix, and Erica McAfee of Reno, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Lillian Eddy; his sister, Helen Leonard; brother, Jim Eddy and grandson, Kyle McAfee.
The family thanks the doctors and nurses who cared for Neal. He especially loved Dr. Page and her staff.
