Taking advantage of beautiful weather, several junior golfers took part in the Four Corners Junior Golf Championship last week.
In all, 25 total golfers took part in the two-day tournament, which opened at Conquistador Golf Club on July 9 and concluded at the San Juan Country Club in Farmington on July 10.
Competing against players from Glenwood Springs, Clifton, Montrose and Durango, several local golfers performed well in the championship.
Among those was Montezuma-Cortez High School star Hayden Plewe, whose first round score of 76 and second round score of 72 was good enough to win the boys 16-18 year old division by 14 strokes.
Montezuma-Cortez High School golfers Ryan Aiken and Tristan Shelby also performed well in the boys 16-18 year old division.
Dolores High School girls team standout Kiselya Plewe shined with a two-round score of 158, which was good enough to take top honors in the girls 18 and under division.
Cristoffer Rudosky won the boys 13-15 year old age division with a two-round score of 162, while Blake Keetch won the boys 12 and under division with a two round score of 185.
Overall, the tournament was termed a success by Conquistador Golf Course head golf professional Micah Rudosky, who said that providing young golfers with the opportunity to play in tournaments is key to their success.
“Some of the better players around our area are drove up here to play,” he said. “Being able to get on to nice courses for tournaments that are two days is wonderful for the juniors.”
While Conquistador Golf Course will not host any more junior tournaments this year, the course will offer junior clinics every Thursday throughout the summer.
