FARMINGTON – Farmington police arrested a homeless man believed to be intoxicated who allegedly threatened a health care worker who was called out to try to help him.

Police responded to the call Feb. 28 at the Dollar Tree, where the suspect, identified as Roy John Johnhat, threatened a Farmington Fire Department health care worker with a knife, according to a Farmington Police Department case report.

According to the report, the Farmington Fire Department was called out for a well-being check for a man who was believed to be intoxicated and falling over. The health care worker and her co-worker arrived and tried to help, but Johnhat told them to leave him alone.

“Due to the male being unable to care for himself, (the responders) continued to ask if he needed help,” the report said.

According to the health care worker, when medics asked the man about needing assistance, he unfolded a pocket knife.

“The male screamed at the two as he swung the open knife directly at (the health care worker),” according to the report.

The two called for police to expedite their arrival. When police arrived about 2:25 p.m., they were able to make contact with Johnhat who was sitting on the ground on a dirt lot just east of the store.

“The male seemed heavily intoxicated and was yelling obscenities at us,” the narrative read.

After police spoke with the health care worker, Johnhat was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a health care worker and taken to the detention center where he was “booked on his charge,” according to the report.

Johnhat was in jail as of Tuesday. No other information about his court case was available.
