After a seat-shaking, single crack of thunder Sunday afternoon, lightning strikes were reported all around Durango about 4 p.m., and at least 547 people were temporarily left without power in the city’s Riverview area.
La Plata Electric Association reported as of 4:25 p.m. Sunday, crews were on their way to begin working at a location on Ford Avenue, where several reports were called in.
Crews were able to quickly identify damage, according to a LPEA news release, as a piece of equipment that protects overhead lines and equipment was damaged – possibly by lightning.
By 5:21 p.m., most of those customers had their power restored after the short but dramatic thunderstorm passed over town.
