On Aug. 11-14, from 1-5 p.m., the Summer Reading Program Store will be open in the library, and you can trade Book Bucks in on items including books, school supplies and toys. It'll be first-come, first-served, so shop early.
Also, Kathie Butler is registering students for the library's after-school programs. Stop by the library if you're interested. Kindergarten and first grades will meet every-other Monday, second- and third-graders on Tuesdays, fourth- and fifth-graders on Wednesdays and River Writers on Thursdays.
New faces coming to Dolores schools
There will be quite a few new faces at Dolores schools this year.
At the Dolores secondary schools you will see Liliana Argento as the new Spanish teacher, Dana Petersen as the new high school math teacher, the returning Dr. James Anderson as secondary art teacher, Michael Nielson as the new middle school social studies teacher, and Chris LaRose as the sixth-grade science and STEM teacher.
At the elementary school, Emily Christensen and Melody McNeill will join the first-grade team. Melody student taught in third grade last year. Emily has been very active as a sub and preschool teacher. Second grade welcomes Jen Barry and Chris Powell. Jen comes from Bayfield, but worked at Dolores Elementary during her pre-service training. Chris comes back for a swan song, taking Alisha Liska's place for the year. Mikah Owen joins Gwen in fourth grade. He is new to the teaching profession, has a terrific sense of humor and will be a fun addition. Fifth grade welcomes Kristi Smith, who brings enthusiasm to the team.
Dolores Elementary offering an open house
Don't forget that the Dolores Elementary School is offering an open house on Aug. 14 at 5-7 p.m. Students will get their classroom assignments, something that has been done at registration. Principal Sherri Maxwell says this gives staff time to balance class size and demographics. Students may also bring in their school supplies prior to the first day.
Get in line for physicals
Sports physicals will be held next week on Aug. 13-14. Boys middle and high school physicals will begin each day at 6 p.m. Girls middle and high school physicals will begin at 6:30 p.m. Teachers return to work on Monday, Aug. 11. School starts Monday, Aug. 18.
