For the final time this year, dirt track stock car racing will take place east of Cortez at Fairgrounds Speedway.
Scheduled to take place Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, the races will be sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association. Sport compacts, hobby stocks, stock cars, sport mods and modifieds will compete.
In addition to offering prize money to top placers, the weekend races will offer drivers an opportunity to move up in the IMCA season standings. At the end of the night on Sept. 13, a season champion will be crowned in each class.
“This weekend several season championships will be up for grabs,” said race promotor Reagan Tafoya. “Drivers will be going all out in hopes of accumulating as many season points as possible.”
Races will begin at dusk and admission will be 10 dollars for adults, five dollars for children under the age of 13 and free for children under the age of six.
“Our main goal with this racetrack is to make it a family-friendly environment,” said Tafoya. “Race fans of all ages are encouraged to attend.”
