Comedian Adrianne Chalepah, who made her stage debut while attending Fort Lewis College, will perform at the Sunflower Theatre with special guest Isiah Yazzie on Friday, Sept. 23.
Chalepah, a Kiowa/Apache entertainer from Anadarko, Oklahoma, has racked up an impressive resume since graduating magna cum laude in 2009 from Fort Lewis College, where she studied journalism, filmmaking, and American Indian Studies. In 2010, she gained recognition and exposure in magazines and on television after she teamed up with the popular comedy troupe “49 Laughs Comedy.” In 2012, she opened up for first lady Michelle Obama. In 2014, she joined some of the most talented Native American comedians in the U.S. to form the group “Ladies of Native Comedy.”
Chalepah is a mother of three, a wife and a businesswoman, and she performs across North America.
Chalepah made television history by becoming the first Native American to be cast on WeTV’s hit show “Bridezillas.”
Isiah Yazzie, who opens for Chalepah, is a Navajo comedian who recently founded Rez City Improv & Comedy. He has been performing improv and stand-up comedy for four years. After attending Second City in Chicago, he has become an enthusiastic advocate for improv, political and satirical humor.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 at the Sunflower Theatre, 8 E. Main St. in Cortez. Tickets are $12 in advance, and $15 at the door.
