A Tip Your Firefighters fundraiser for the Cortez Fire Protection District will be held at J.Fargo’s, 1209 E. Main St. in Cortez from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26.
All tips and 10 percent of food sales will go to the Cortez Fire Protection District for public education on fire safety.
The firefighters from the Cortez Fire Protection District just spent Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 5 to 11, visiting students in the elementary and preschools in the fire district, teaching them about fire safety and prevention.
The department will be handing out trick-or-treat bags with safety items and fire helmets for the children, and there will be games and activities. And wear your costume to get a free mini-ice cream cone, and some fire trucks set up for tours. Firefighters also will have a drawing for two families to win a firefighter escort for trick-or-treating on Halloween night.
The Fire Protection District encourages everyone to take this opportunity to meet the people who help protect their community, and learn about the services that we offer. Here is a partial list of some of the services provided by the Cortez Fire Protection District:
Emergency: Structure fire protection and response, wildfire and grass fire protection and response, technical rescue response (rope rescue, ice rescue, water rescue), hazardous materials response, emergency medical response, vehicle extrication and stabilization.
Non-emergency: Home fire inspections, chimney inspections (for compliance only), fire extinguisher training, business inspections.
