The Membership Show reception was "snowed out" but there will be a party for artists on Dec. 5 during Olde Fashioned Christmas. Pop over at 5 to 7 p.m. This show runs at the Visitors Center through Jan. 9.
Brian Killigrew
Don't miss his one-man show at Olio of black and white photography, done the old-fashioned way - with film, a dark room and chemicals.
Over at the Cortez Cultural Center
Join local author John Wright and songwriter/singer Marilyn Kroeker, as they return to entertain us and talk at the Novelist and Songwriter Workshop in the gallery. Free to members, $5 for nonmembers, Nov. 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Life Drawing continues for $5 on Nov. 20. Bring your drawing materials; a model is provided. You must be over 18.
Artisans Winter Solstice Festival
This event runs from Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. through Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. Regional and local artists have created original and unique offerings including ceramics, jewelry, metal, textiles, glass, wood, notecards, ornaments, calendars, photography, painting and drawing.
Art for the holidays
Please consider art for gifting - it's personal and unique. Whether you make it yourself (I'm hitting the Painted Turtle for custom platters) or you support one of our artists, it's a win-win. Think about it.
Feat of Clay
Elaine Frink (painter), Toni Troksy (potter) and Janet Grenawalt (jeweler) will be featured in an Aztec show from the reception on Nov. 21 through Dec. 13. Toni does wonderful one-of-a-kind pieces with marvelous glaze coloring. Worth the trip!
Colors of the season
As I as driving to Cortez last week, I pondered the colors. Fall's bright golds and oranges have disappeared, replaced by a subtle palette of grays, beiges and muted greens and blues. As I write this, snow white has been added to the mix. We all ooh and aah about the autumn "blaze of glory" but there is something about the winter hues that I love. Can't wait for the first big, deep, silent snowfall.
