Board members discussed locking all doors and installing a buzz-in system.
"So people wanting to come inside would have to buzz in," said Mancos School District Superintendent Brian Hanson.
Heath Showalter, K-12 dean of students and athletic director, estimated a buzz-in system would cost $8,500 to install.
In addition, Hanson discussed possibly building a second entry to all buildings - double doors at the school entry ways. Estimated costs were not available Monday.
Hanson also said the board looked at upgrading the phone system.
In last month's meeting, Hanson told the board of education that he had no way of contacting all teachers at once in case of an emergency. A new phone system that would allow communication with one touch of a button was recommended.
"We are looking at upgrading our phones and an intercom system to all the schools," Hanson said. "With one push of the button, we could talk to everyone in the building."
While there were no cost estimates of upgrading the system, Hanson put it between $30,000 and $40,000.
"It's something we wanted to do for some time, and I will likely come back to the board and ask for the money," he said. "Our reserves are healthy, and I think we are in a good place to do this."
The board also discussed metal detectors on Monday, but the cost is likely too expensive, Hanson said, because an officer also would be needed.
Board members also discussed an upcoming decision by the town that could see the addition of a retail marijuana store, Hanson said. The store would likely go in near a nearby auto repair shop. The retail marijuana store is expected to come before the Town Board on Dec. 10, Hanson said.
