If you haven't had enough glitter, glue and construction paper this holiday season, head over to the Family Craft Night at Dolores Elementary School. Dolores Elementary School Parent Teacher association is sponsoring a Family Craft Night and Chili Dog Dinner Friday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the third-and-fourth-grade hallway.

There is a small charge per craft, and a chili dog, hot dog or chili will be available for purchase. A parent must attend with their child.

Construction nearly complete

Dolores School District Superintendent Scott Cooper sent out a letter recently to parents saying the long school construction process will be completed this month.

Cooper said to save the date of Feb. 6. The school will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon on the east side of the high school campus. Refreshments and tours of the new science building and vocational/agriculture building are planned.

Construction and additional classrooms came from a $3.5 million school bond approved by voters in 2012, coupled with a $2.6 million BEST grant.

Science fair

Dolores Middle School students are putting finishing touches on their projects for the big science fair, set for Thursday, Dec. 11. The science projects will be judged on Thursday morning, and the projects will be open for public inspection from 5 to 8 p.m.

The projects are judged by high school science students.

I am amazed at what some of our students come up with.

School finance

The Dolores Accountability and Advisory Committee invites the public to participate in a discussion about school finance, on Jan. 20 at 6 p.m.

The committee will cover where funding comes from and how the funds support learning. The committee will also go over what parents and community members hope to see in the future of the schools.

Food drive success

The Dolores School Community collected 1,865 pieces of food during food drives last month. Donations help families in the community.

Thanks to Dolores PTA, Dolores Schools, Dolores Southern Baptist Church, who supported the project.
