When committee member Margie Russell was approached after the Mancos School Board meeting Monday, she indicated that the committee wouldn't get the required number of signatures to allow the recall to advance.
When asked if they'd would start another petition, hinted that it might be a possibility.
"There may be other things coming out soon," Russell said.
After a Dec. 2 hearing, in which Humiston-Scott challenged the validity of some of the petition, it was determined that the original petition was 140 signatures short.
Attorney Mike Green, acting as the election officer at the hearing, tossed the petition and said the recall committee had 15 days to gather the additional signatures or it would need to start a new petition.
Montezuma County Clerk and Recorder Carol Tullis initially erred in telling the committee that it needed 212 signatures to move forward with a recall election. Prior to the Dec. 2 hearing, Humiston-Scott's attorney, Bobby Duthie, discovered Tullis' error and found that the committee needed to gather 352 signatures.
The recall effort began after a July school board meeting during which Humiston-Scott was arrested during a heated discussion about her censure. Charges were later dropped by District Attorney William Furse.
