Competing in Durango on Jan. 9, the Montezuma-Cortez High School girls swim team finished second overall. Durango won the meet, Farmington finished third, Piedra Vista finished fourth. and Grand Junction Central finished fifth.
Leading the way for the Panthers was senior Madison Van Bibber, who finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (27.33) and first in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.30).
Sophomore Samantha Bagge finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:19.78) and second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.75).
Freshman Caisey Duran finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:37.62) and third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.72), while sophomore Bailey Duran finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:18.47) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (6:17.85).
M-CHS’s 200 freestyle relay team composed of Bagge, VanBibber, Bailey Duran and Kayla Hageman finished second overall (1:57.38) and the Panthers 400-yard freestyle relay team made up of Bagge, VanBibber, Bailey Duran and Caisey Duran also finished second (4:16.68).
Next up for M-CHS will be the Albuquerque Academy Invitational, which will take place in Albuquerque on Jan. 17.
