American Airlines adds third Dallas flight
The number of flights at Durango-La Plata County Airport will increase slightly with American Airlines adding a third daily Dallas flight. Also, the long-awaited return of Frontier Airlines in the spring will provide airline options for traveling to and from Denver.
American Airlines plans to add the flight May 7.
Dallas is the third largest market for Durango and the Four Corners, said Kip Turner, director of aviation at the airport. Many residents in the Dallas area have second homes in Durango, work within the gas and oil industry and visit as tourists.
Passengers flying from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Durango have will be able to leave at 9 a.m., 1:45 p.m. or 5:15 p.m. Passengers flying from Durango to Dallas have the option of leaving at 8:05 a.m., 11:20 a.m. or 4:05 p.m.
Frontier will return April 14 with service to Denver on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. A plane will leave at 2:50 p.m. from Denver and at 6:29 p.m. from Durango, three days per week.

CSU Extension schedules session on radon
Colorado State University Extension is again presenting an information session on radon. The class will be held Jan. 27 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Montezuma County Extension Office, 109 W. Main, Room 102.
Call 565-3123 to make a reservation. Participants will learn what radon is, why care is needed and what to do with the information.
The class is free and includes a radon test kit. Because of the nature of the soil in this area, homes are at higher risk to have elevated radon. If the radon level in a home is greater than 4 pCi/l, EPA recommends mitigation.
Attendance at fairgrounds soars during 2014
The Montezuma County fairgrounds had a banner year for attendance in 2014, bringing in 68,000 people, up from 53,000 in 2013.
The facility received some upgrades as well, said manager Tanner Young. Brighter, and more energy efficient lights will be installed at the indoor arena in the coming weeks. A heater that runs on used oil was replaced.
County officials are negotiating with the Colorado Department of Education to relocate a new electronic-message sign closer to U.S. Highway 160 to increase visibility.
