The seniors who have graduated this year are: John Leavitt, Donitta Cox, Wilma Doerfer, Joan Jensen, George Maness, Dayton Kirkham, Janet Brown, Nadine Gibbs, Laura Ismay, Betty Ree Yeomans, Helen Decker, Tommy Lou Alexander, Doris Norman, Joy Smouse, Flora Wagner, Laurel Malone, Jo McCrum, Clarence Riggins, Jim Thomas, Charles Freeman, Phyllis Jones, Paul Decker, Ernest Cox and Hugh Hammond.
(Donitta passed away on August 3, 1998 as the result of a tragic auto accident. Nadine was the daughter of Roger and Ada Gibbs who passed away in 1972. Laura was the daughter of Houston and Florence Ismay. Houston passed away in October 1961 of a heart attack while out hunting. Betty Ree was a daughter of Hazel and Dick Yeomans. Hazel passed away in 1970. Helen was a daughter of Earl and Louise Decker. Helen married but passed away only a few years later. Tommy Lou passed away in 1973 in Leadville where she had pneumonia followed by a heart attack. Joy was a daughter of Paul and Emma Smouse. Paul died of a heart attack in 1949 at his home northeast of Mancos. Flora was a daughter of Mabel and John Francis Wagner. John Francis was a maintenance man for the county for many years and served with the Mancos volunteer fire department for 20 years. Paul Wayne Decker was a son of Morris and Maria Decker. Paul married Thelma Brown and still had one son at home when he passed away. Ernest was a son of Dulcie and Ernest Larkin Cox. I remember Ernest being on the basketball team. Hugh Hammond married Lillian Eppich. She passed away a few years ago.)
A wood fire of undetermined origin burned over 10 acres north east of Mancos Monday morning.
A brush fire on the Hurst ranch northwest of Mancos burned over 50 acres first of the week.
Supt. Aaron Baker has announced that the following teachers have signed contracts to teach in the Mancos schools next fall: Mrs. Elvira Oswald, Mrs. Maurice Ritter, Mrs. Peri Knisley, Mrs. Eva Hayes, Barbara Freeman and Reinhold Werling.
Mancos firemen mad a run Tuesday morning when a trash fire at the Ammon Lamb home got out of control and threatened nearby buildings.
Mrs. Haralson Weaver was taken to the hospital in Cortez last weekend suffering from an attack of appendicitis.

Mrs. Etta Teague returned home from the hospital in Cortez where she had been receiving treatment for several days. (Etta passed away in 1963.)

The farm home of Harley Walton was completely destroyed by fire Friday morning. (Harley married Marcheta Smith Newholm.)
A forest fire burned over more than 50 acres in the Millwood district Wednesday afternoon before it was controlled by Forest Service employees.
