For the sixth consecutive year, a free breakfast with lots of fellowship was served at the Mt. Lookout Grange in Mancos, Spruce Street and Grand Avenue.
Breakfast included sausage, buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs, potatoes and fixins.
An exhibit of quotations, photos, books and articles also was on display, representing the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which is being completed on the mall in Washington D.C.
Community volunteers cooked on Monday from 8 to 10 a.m. while serving individual plates to each of the 68 participants. The event was coordinated by Gretchen Groenke, and the "kitchen captain" was Tim White. Donations help buy local food from Berto Farm, Fahrenheit Coffee Roasters, LB Coop and Stubborn Farm.
At one point, everyone sang the gospel song "This Little Light of Mine."
