Throughout the 2014-15 season, the Mancos High School girls basketball team has struggled to score points.
On Jan. 24 however, the team's offense hit a new low as the Bluejays scored just seven points during the first three quarters and lost to Ridgway, 42-22.
"We started out slow and kind of stayed slow," said Mancos head coach Mallory Morgan. "Offensively, we couldn't score. We shot the ball, but we couldn't put it in the basket."
Junior guard Jessica Gutierrez led the Bluejays with 11 points and Nicole Hess scored eight.
Mancos trailed 19-4 at the end of the first quarter and 24-7 at halftime. The Bluejays were outscored 10-0 in the third quarter before outscoring Ridgway 15-8 in the final frame.
"We were finally able to penetrate in the fourth quarter," said Morgan. "We gained some confidence and we were able to get to the free throw line."
Now 2-7 on the season, Mancos will play on the road against Dolores on Jan. 27 before returning home to face Dove Creek on Jan. 23 and Telluride on Jan. 24.
"It's anybody's season still," said Morgan. "If we can pull out a few wins, we'll be just fine."
