History Colorado will honor Ernest House Jr., at the 29th annual Stephen H. Hart Awards for Historic Preservation ceremony on Feb. 4.
The ceremony will take place at the History Colorado Center in Denver.
House, a Ute Mountain Ute, will be recognized for services to tribes and historic preservation.
As executive director of the Commission of Indian Affairs, House has worked closely with History Colorado to maintain a relationship between tribal governments and the state of Colorado.
House is known for bringing disparate interests together to find solutions for challenging issues. He has helped History Colorado, in consultation with two Ute tribes and 46 other consulting tribes, conduct unmarked human burials.
He has helped many people understand that historic preservation is a subset of a larger group of concerns that includes cultural landscapes, community renewal and sustainable environments.
