Students are gearing up from one of their biggest reading days of the year next week.
March 2 is Dr. Seuss' birthday, and it is National Read Across America Day. Mancos plans to celebrate in style.
March 2 is a favorite among students and the Mancos Elementary staff. The entire day will be dedicated to reading and celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday.
Celebrations will be Dr. Seuss-style, including a lunch of green eggs and ham.
The entire community is asked to grab a favorite book and join the Mancos School District at 8:30 a.m. in front of the school to begin the day with a community-wide "Read Across Mancos" celebration.
"While we take some time to read out in front of the school as a community, don't be surprised if you leave saying, 'And to think that I saw it on Grand Avenue,'" said teacher Elizabeth Eschallier.
Families are encouraged to spend the day at the school enjoying the Book Fair, listening to stories read by Thing 1, watching drama presentations from the Middle School, and having a scrumptious lunch of green eggs and ham.
The celebration will continue into the evening during with Snuggle Up and Read from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
