As a result, the Lady Bears will enter the Class 2A District 3 Tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Lady Bears fall to Mancos
Opening last weekend on the road against Mancos, Dolores struggled to rebound the basketball and lost 49-43. Mancos fell behind by twelve points in the first half before cutting the Bluejays lead to one point in the third quarter.
"It was a really good game," said Lady Bears head coach Larry Schwartz. "We turned up the pressure with our press in the second half and that's what got us back in the game. We missed a few point blank layups and that was the difference.
Nicole Kibel led the Lady Bears with 19 points and Larissa Umberger had 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals.
"Nicole and Larissa had big games," Schwartz said. "Mancos was getting us on the boards for whatever reason though. They were getting about three shots per offensive possession."
Lady Bears downed by Norwood
One day after losing to Mancos, Dolores travelled to Norwood on Feb. 21 for a matchup against the defending Class 1A state champions and lost 43-29.
"We were out of it from start to finish," said Schwartz. "Norwood had lost to Ignacio the night before and they were out to prove something. It was really physical and we got knocked around from start to finish."
Kibel led Dolores with 11 points and Umberger scored seven.
The Lady Bears will host seed Telluride in the first round of the Class 2A District three tournament on Feb. 25.
The winner will play against top-seeded Ignacio at Montezuma-Cortez High School on Feb. 27.
The top-three teams in the District Tournament will move onto a Regional Tournament, which will take place next week.
