There was a parade down Grand Avenue in Mancos Monday - a parade to celebrate reading.
Students and community members lined the streets with their favorite books and watched a parade in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.
"It was a great kickoff," said Mancos Elementary Principal Cathy Epps.
Students marched in the parade, there was a band, Thing 1 and Thing 2 and lots and lots of books.
"All the kids came out on Grand Avenue with their books," Epps said.
The parade was a surprise for the students and the community.
The parade was a kickoff for a whole day of reading. Students spent most of the day curled up with books and in the evening over 100 participated in the snuggle up and read event.
"All day was all centered around reading and writing and Dr. Seuss' birthday," Epps said.
Community members and the library participated in parade, in addition to the Fire Department and Will Stone and his steer Crash.
"It was awesome," Epps said.
