With spring in the air, the seventh annual Mancos Melt will host its popular putt-putt golf tournament, Saturday, March 12.
Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Columbine Bar on Grand Avenue and pre-registration at the Fahrenheit coffee house. The putt-putt tourney will begin promptly at 1 p.m. Cost is $40 per two-person team.
The putt-putt course is composed of 18 holes, each elaborately decorated and hosted by various Mancos businesses and restaurants. Food and libations will be available throughout the course.
In the spirit of Mancos, Where the West Still Lives, Mancos resident Art and his trusty steed Avatar will be providing bat and board carriage rides to shuttle players to the various holes located throughout town.
“We are excited to continue the Mancos tradition and celebrate spring with a fun event such as the putt-putt golf tourney,” said Rena Wilson, event founder and coordinator.
“This has always been a popular event, and folks in the community get excited for it every year,” she said.
This year’s theme is “Steampunk.” Prizes will be awarded for best hole, best costume and best caddy. First prize is a round of golf for four at Dalton Ranch golf course; Second prize is a round of golf at the Hillcrest Golf Club; and third prize is round of golf at Conquistador Golf Course.
Awards to follow will be held at the Mancos Valley Distillery at 4:30 p.m. The band You Knew Me When will be playing as part of the festivities at 5:30.
This year’s beneficiary is the Painted Turtle Art Studio. All proceeds will be used for student scholarships, those who would typically not be able to participate in the various art classes provided by Painted Turtle.
A special thanks to our sponsors the Mancos Creative District, Goodnight Trail Gallery, Beehive Boutique and Spa, and Olio Restaurant, and Walgreens.
