Two weeks into her final high school athletic season, Dolores High School senior Olivia Wright is already finding her form and appears primed for a second consecutive trip to the state track meet.
After participating in volleyball, basketball and track as a freshman and sophomore, Wright focused solely on track last season and placed 18th in the state in the 400-meter dash.
The senior also helped the Lady Bears 4x400-meter relay finish seventh at state and the team's 4x200-meter relay finish 10th.
"I would really like to get a couple relay teams to state and on the podium again," said Wright, when asked about her goals for this season. "I enjoy the team aspect of track."
More than just a runner, Wright earns consistently high marks in the classroom and listed biology as her favorite class. The senior plans to attend Grand Canyon University next year and pursue a degree in nursing.
"I like the healthcare field because it deals a lot with biology," said Wright.
As her for plans during the next few months, Wright said that she would focus on track and relish her final few months at Dolores High School. Asked what she will remember most about her time in Dolores, Wright immediately mentioned the tightknit nature of the community.
"I really enjoy the people and the teachers," said Wright. "I think we are all really close."
