An ordinary Friday afternoon at Vista Grande Nursing Home in Cortez was shaken up when a sedan crashed into a patient’s room on the front end of the building.
While the patient was in bed resting at the time of the crash, she and the driver of the vehicle did not sustain injuries.
“She’s pretty shaken up, but she’s fine,” said Vista Grande CEO Joyce Humiston.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation and the driver was not available for comment.
Structural damage to the building was minor— Humiston said no one in adjacent rooms will likely be moved, and her staff was working on a temporary patch to the hole the vehicle made to keep it in temporarily intact.
“We’re just glad no one was hurt,” she said. “It could’ve been a lot worse.”
