Wednesday, April 8
10:45 a.m. A police officer was sent to the 300 block of South Madison for a report of vehicle vandalism. A woman reported that her tires had been slashed and eggs were all over the front windshield. The windshield was also cracked. The woman later called back the officer and demanded he collect some of the eggs and lift finger prints off them. The officer explained that it would be very difficult to do so because of the texture of the eggs, but the woman insisted he could do it because she saw them do that once on a forensic show. When the eggs were sent to a detective, he was not able to pull any finger prints off the shells.
12:42 p.m. A man was arrested after a hit and run in the parking lot of a business in the 200 block of South Sligo Street. The vehicle described was later located and the man driving was arrested for careless driving, hit and run and having an uninsured vehicle.
Friday, April 10
3:12 p.m. A man reported that $30 in cash was taken from his unlocked car over the night. The keys were left in the ignition, but the car was still there in the morning. However, a neighboring car was reported missing in the neighborhood, also with keys left in the ignition. Another person reported someone took her GPS unit out of her car.
Saturday, April 11
8:25 a.m. Dispatch was advised that a female was being chased by a male around the deli department at Walmart. The female was yelling for someone to call 911. When the officer arrived, it was discovered the male had a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested. The argument apparently started over a phone.
11:32 p.m. An officer responded to North Washington Street for a report of two males checking car doors to see if they were unlocked. The officer observed a male under a Jeep Wrangler, trying to hide himself. When the officer stopped, the male tried to run away, the officer grabbed his arm and put him in handcuffs. Meanwhile another officer was seen chasing another male, who was eventually caught. Inside the second suspects pockets was a lot of change and a fortune cookie. The officer explained to the suspect that a vehicle was broken into nearby and there was an identical fortune cookie inside, along with a lot of change on the ground next to it. Also in one of the suspects’ pockets was $441.
Sunday, April 12
12:21 p.m. An officer was sent to the Cortez Addiction Recovery Center for a report of a bottle containing fuel outside the building. The bottle had burned and there was smoke damage to the wall of the building. It looked as if the bottle containing fuel had been thrown at the building, but the building itself never caught fire.
12:46 p.m. Officers responded to a home in the 1600 bock of East Coronado Avenue for a report of a fire in the backyard of a home. The homeowners and neighbors were successful in controlling the fire with water from garden hoses, the officer applied a chemical fire extinguisher to the fire and the fire department then arrived and extinguished the fire completely. The home owner said he was burning a small pile of leaves when the fire caught the nearby bushes on fire. There was slight damage to the homes’ siding and some lawn furniture.
Monday, April 13
6:13 a.m. An officer took a report for a stolen vehicle, which was later located at a Maverick gas station. The vehicle was pulled over and the three males inside were ordered out of the vehicle at gun point. One of the suspects told the officers that he looked inside the vehicle and saw the keys laying in the vehicle so he and his friends decided to take the vehicle for a joy ride. Two of the males were arrested for vehicle theft.
