Dolores Eelementary student Kayla Talmadge waits to seat guests last week during Mrs. Howerton’s third-grade restaurant fundraising event. The goal was to learn about economics. The students chose to do Indian Cuisine using food from the school garden that they helped grow and harvest. They named their restaurant the “Genie in the Bottle” and put together a menu and prices. Friends and parents were invited to order and were waited on by students decked out in traditional Indian outfits, or bandanas and aprons. Both Mrs. Elder’s and Mrs. Neeley’s class put on restaurants of their own the following days. The profit went to the garden program.
