Evan Woody has had a busy summer on his 50cc KTM dirt bike.
This summer alone, the 7-year-old Dolores resident has raced his No. 304 bike in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and California.
Now he's heading to Tennessee.
After winning first overall at the Miller Motorsports Park area qualifier in Tooele, Utah, on May, 23, then finishing third overall in the Prairie City OHV regional qualifier on June 13, Woody qualified for the 2015 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship presented by AMSOIL at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.
Woody claimed that the race at Loretta Lynn Ranch was his favorite, but not just because it is a national competition.
"It has a pool, too," he said grinning.
The track at Loretta Lynn Ranch will be familiar to Woody, who returns after finishing third overall in last year's national championship in the 51cc (4-6) Limited class.
However, this year he will be racing in the 51cc (7-8) Limited class, with the majority of participants at 8 years old. The one-year age difference may pose a challenge for Woody, but it's one that he is ready to take on.
"It's going to be hard because it will be against mostly older kids," said Woody. "But my goal is to finish top seven."
Woody is scheduled to race at 11:30 a.m. EST on three consecutive days, Wednesday through Friday, July 29-July 31. The races can be streamed online via RacerTV.com, and fans can follow Woody on Instagram at: EvanWoody304. They can also donate to Woody's GoFundMe by following the link on his Instagram bio.
