11 a.m. While investigating a possible theft in City Park, police ticketed a man for alcohol possession in the park.
8:15 p.m. A woman approached an off duty officer claiming a warrant had mistakenly been issued for her arrest. The woman said her sister stole her identity. The officer later reviewed video footage from the traffic stop, confirming the woman’s story. The warrant was cancelled, and a new warrant issued for the woman’s sister.
9:01 p.m. Police observed an intoxicated woman cross the street near the intersection of Montezuma Avenue and Fillmore Street. She was arrested for violating bond conditions.
10:54 p.m. Police responded to the Sleeping Ute Apartments three times after a man continuously complained of an unwanted party inside his residence. Citing the man’s wife had invited a woman into the home, police were unable to force the unwanted party to leave. Loud and uncooperative, the man was ultimately arrested and charged with disturbing the peace and filing false reports to police.
Thursday, July 23
12:44 a.m. Police responded to the 600 block of South Beech Street for a vandalism call. A man reported the back glass of his automobile was smashed.
1:13 a.m. Police responded to the 300 block of North Chestnut Street for a trash can fire. Officials believe an accelerant was used. Damages were estimated at $100.
4:16 a.m. Police responded to the 600 block of Alameda Drive for an attempted break in at a residence. A man reportedly tried to open the front door, but he fled the scene after the homeowner brandished a handgun. Apprehended in the basement of a nearby home, the man was arrested and charged with trespass, disorderly conduct and underage consumption of alcohol.
Friday, July 24
8:11 a.m. Police responded to the Colorado West Trailer Park for a stolen motorcycle. The keys and a helmet were left under a green 2001 Aprilia.
7:55 p.m. Police observed a man and woman sitting at a picnic table in City Park with a 12-oz. Coke bottle filled with a gold liquid. A man was ticketed for possession of alcohol in the park.
11:08 p.m. Police responded to the Maverick Convenience Store on North State Street on a trespass call. A man was arrested.
Saturday, July 25
10:11 a.m. A man flagged down police on the 10 block of North Park Street to report an assault involving two other men. One man was arrested and charged with disturbing the police after admitting that he punched a man.
11:55 a.m. Police responded to the 10000 block of U.S. 491 on a vandalism and theft call. A 1962 Mercury and a yellow Toyota were reported stolen. Police issued a trespass notice.
1:25 p.m. Police responded to Wal-Mart for a suspicious man in the restroom. Issued a trespass notice in January, the man was arrested.
Sunday, July 26
4:29 a.m. Police responded to the 1300 block of Mesa Verde Street for a trespass call. A woman reported that an unknown male was passed out in her recliner with pieces of a houseplant on his shirt and mouth. The woman claimed that she was awakened after hearing the man tear up and eat the houseplant. After waking the man, fire crews were called to help restrain him for medical treatment. No charges were filed at the woman’s request.
11:14 a.m. Police responded to a residence on the 500 block of East 3rd Street for a cold burglary. The owner, who lives out of town, reported that copper fittings had been removed throughout the vacant home. Police requested a warrant be issued for a suspect after locating a hospital wristband inside the residence.
4:53 p.m. Police responded to the 300 block of South Ash Street for a hit and run. After being “flipped off,” a man gave chase via motorcycle. The motorcyclist reportedly lost control and crashed. Afterwards, the motorcyclist smashed the man’s windshield with a rock. In self-defense, the victim hit the motorcyclist with a stick. After it broke in half, both men, each armed with a stick, continued fighting. Windshield damages were estimated at $500. The motorcyclist was treated for injuries, then arrested and charged with criminal mischief and reckless driving.
9:12 p.m. Police responded to the Montezuma-Cortez High School for suspicious activity. A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant. He was also charged with drug possession after police seized .5 grams of methamphetamines.
Monday, July 27
9:42 a.m. Police responded to the Colorado West Trailer Park for an auto burglary. A woman reported that stereo equipment valued at $330 was stolen from her unlocked vehicle.
10:05 a.m. A woman flagged police down at the Colorado Welcome Center to report that she lost her keys. The keys were last seen atop a pay phone at City Market.
Tuesday, July 28
10 p.m. Police responded to Subway after a woman called to report a man and woman were yelling at one another. A witness said the woman was “slugged” in the head. A foot chase for the man ensued. A pocketknife was seized, and then lost during a struggle while three officers attempted to place the man in handcuffs. A K-9 unit responded to the scene to help locate an officer’s magazine also lost during the struggle. The man was charged with assault, violating a protection order and resisting arrest. He was also issued a trespass notice at Subway.
Wednesday, July 29
12:54 a.m. Police responded to the Happy Valley Trailer Park for a hit and run. A man reportedly struck a car, pushing it into the side of a home before ramming a fence. The suspect’s vehicle was towed to the police department and searched after police discovered a hidden vehicle identification number.
