Although society is changing where men are taking more responsibility in cleaning the home, preparing meals and taking care of the kids, women still seem to take ownership of the household chores and child care.
With nearly 70 percent of women in the workforce 76 percent of single moms work, according to the U.S. department of Labor and those stay-at-home moms, who have the hardest job of all, its time for ladies to do something nice for themselves.
The Cortez Cultural Center will present Ladies Night Out as a fundraiser for the center and to give women a chance to get out of the house for a night of fun. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at the Cortez Elks Lodge, 2100 N. Dolores Road. Tickets are $5 to get in, and various vendors will offer services and products for sale.
Vendors are still being sought for the event andcan include hair stylists, nail technicians, skin care products, home decor and cookware, jewelry, massage therapists, and health and wellness.
Mary Kay representatives are scheduled to be at Ladies Night Out with skin care, makeup and body care products. Another vendor will sell Miche Bags designer handbags that have removable shells to change the look of the bag without transferring things from one bag to another.
Michelle Neely, owner of Second Time Fashions in Cortez, will present a fashion show at the event.
I have 10 models, and were going to do a spring clothing collection of items from our current inventory at the store, Neely said.
She plans to preview a mixture of consigned and new items in the fashion show. There will be no mens wear or childrens clothing shown because its a ladies night and the concentration will be on womens wear, she said. In the show, two prom dresses, a bridal gown, two semi-formals and two cruise wear items will be featured, along with accessories.
Were going to do day wear, jeans, capris and some dresses, and a few formal items for your cruise wear, or semi-formal or formal, Neely said.
The fashion show will highlight all ages, shapes and sizes.
My models range from 16 to someone in her 50s and everything in between, Neely said. We have a mom-to-be for showing maternity clothing.
The Cultural Center is planning on a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere for women to browse the various booths and products being presented.
On the more logistical side of things, some vendors might present financial and insurance information for women, to help them stick to a budget or figure out the best health policies.
Ladies Night Out will be an estrogen-filled evening for women to step back from hectic schedules and unwind with a night of pampering. It could be a night to reconnect with girlfriends and do some shopping, or simply get in touch with the latest trends in clothing for spring. Moms can bring daughters, and grandmas can go, too.
The Cultural Center works to provide a forum for the communitys educational, cultural, artistic and scientific interests.
