While Mancos and Dolores high school athletes enjoy the last week before fall sports practices begin, coaches and administrators are busy preparing for the upcoming seasons.
With safety as the primary concern for both Dolores athletic director Jimmie Lankford and Mancos athletic director Heath Showalter, the two have partnered to put on a coaching clinic for their athletic staffs.
On Wednesday, coaches from both schools will meet at Dolores High School to take part in a clinic led by trainers from Mercy Regional Medical Center.
The event will educate coaches on athletic taping, injury prevention and concussion awareness.
Noting the importance of the safety of student-athletes, Showalter also announced that there will be a trainer from Mercy Sports Medicine present at all Mancos High School home football games this season.
"It will benefit our players," Showalter said. "But also the visiting team's players."
