Cortez Elks Lodge 1789 has named its four 2015 scholarship winners from Montezuma-Cortez and Dolores high schools.
Each will receive a $1,000 to be used at the accredited college or university of their choice.
This year, the local Elks awarded two Outstanding Female Student winners; Haley Nadone, of Montezuma-Cortez, and Emma Youngquist, of Dolores.
Jonathon Walck, of M-CHS, received the Outstanding Male Student award. Taylor Elder, of Dolores, received the Legacy award, granted each year to a deserving student whose parent or grandparent is a member of the local Lodge. This award is funded but the Colorado Elks Association through the Elks National Foundation.
“As members, we feel fortunate to live in an area where our schools produce outstanding scholars and citizens,” an Elks spokesman said. “We, the Cortez Elks, are proud of these fine young men and women.”
