Replacement of slow lift among $5 million in planned upgrades
Rory James, top, Anthony Drabek, bottom, and Kip Wing, back, with Leitner-Poma of America, prepare to disassemble two of the towers for Lift 8 at Purgatory Resort. A new high-speed quad lift will replace the slow-moving Legends Lift 8, cutting the ride to the mountaintop from 13½ minutes to five minutes.
Workers disassemble Lift 8 on the backside of Purgatory Resort on Saturday. The old, slow-moving lift will be put in storage for eventual repurposing.

James Coleman's ski areas

James Coleman is a managing partner of three other Southwestern ski areas: Snowbowl in Flagstaff, Arizona; Sipapu near Taos, New Mexico; and Pajarito in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Including Purgatory Resort, he has invested $10 million in upgrades this year across his ski operations.
A new 'Power Pass' is offered this year that provides unlimited access to all four Coleman resorts.
'For the first time, guests will enjoy unlimited access to some of the best terrain in Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona - all on a single pass,' Coleman said. 'Purgatory, Arizona Snowbowl, Sipapu and Pajarito make up the largest ski-area collective in the Southwest, and we're committed to making these resorts the best in the region.'
