The Bureau of Land Management on Tuesday issued a call for nominations to fill three positions on its national Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board. Nominations must be received via email by Feb. 10, or postmarked by that date.
Nominations are for a three-year term.
The board advises the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service on the management of wild free-roaming horses and burros on public lands. The board generally meets twice a year, and the BLM may call additional meetings. Members serve without salary, but are reimbursed for travel and per diem expenses.
The advisory board consists of nine members with varied interests and qualifications for issues relating to wild horse and burro advocacy and research, veterinary medicine, natural resources management, humane advocacy, wildlife management, livestock management, and public interest with knowledge of wild horses and burros, management of wildlife, animal husbandry, or natural resource management.
Federal and state government employees are not eligible to serve on the board.
Nominations require a letter and resume that includes the nominee’s desired position, the nominee’s full name, and business and home addresses and phone numbers, e-mail address, current occupation/title and employer, education, career highlights and qualifications, relevant experience in wild horse and burro management, and experience in working with disparate groups to achieve collaborative solutions.
Applicants must also indicate any BLM permit, lease, or license held by the nominee or his/her employer and whether the nominee is a registered lobbyist. At least one letter of reference from interests the nominee may represent must be provided.
