The popular community potluck and pie-baking contest is a collaborative effort of the Mancos Public Library, the Mt. Lookout Grange and the Mancos Creative District, and is a celebration of local food. It was well attended as a line for the potluck buffet snaked inside the Mancos Community Center.
The event closed down Grand Avenue from Main Street to Mesa Street in Mancos as the street was transformed into an outdoor dining venue. Attendees pulled their own tables and chairs together to form a large patchwork banquet table.
"This is such a quintessential small-town event," said one participant.
The Mancos Chamber of Commerce also used the event as a springboard for its "Mancos Made" initiative, which seeks to cohesively brand local goods via a custom-designed logo. The idea came about from the spring Economic Development Summit, after a group of local business owners and producers suggested leveraging the demand for locally produced, sustainable goods to showcase Mancos' producers via a branding campaign.
The official Mancos Made logo was designed by Mancos Economic Development coordinator Chelsea Jones.
"A lot of people here are artists, ranchers, farmers, and producers, so we thought that the Harvest Fest was the perfect venue to roll out the "Mancos Made" campaign," said Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce president Patty Russell.
