The Four Corners Rifle & Pistol Junior Shooters won three out of four categories at the 2011 Western Slope Invitational Junior Smallbore Rifle Prone Matches in Grand Junction on the weekend of April 16-17.
The event was sponsored by Grand Valley Marksman.
Montezuma-Cortez student-athlete Ashley Lingo, 16, won first place with a score of 497-40 in the Intermediate Junior category, ages 15-17. Lingo also received the High Junior Woman Award. She scored the second highest score of the competition. The high match winners score of 498-40 was only one point ahead of Lingos, which was shot in the Junior 18-20 category, the only category in which the Cortez team did not have a shooter. Elijah Winkles also participated in the Intermediate Junior category.
Dolores student Ryan Lyons, 12, took first place with a score of 485-19 in the Sub-Junior category, ages 11-14. Bryan Romine and Aaron Butler also participated in the Sub-Junior category.
Mancos student Tia Imel, 8, was first place with a score of 380-4 in the Tyro category, ages 10-under.
The Junior Shooters follow the National Rifle Association, Marksmanship Qualification courses of fire, and always emphasize safety first. The Four Corners Rifle & Pistol Junior Shooters is a branch of the Four Corners Rifle & Pistol Club.
