The Montezuma-Cortez soccer team dropped consecutive conference games, losing to Crested Butte on Friday and Telluride on Saturday.
M-CHS led at halftime of both contests, but the Panthers gave up four second-half goals in each game, losing both by the score 1-4.
Against Crested Butte, the Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with Jesus Ruiz’s goal off of a throw in. Maximo Blanco initially headed the ball, but it was knocked away by the Titans’ keeper. Ruiz then kicked the ball in off the rebound for the game’s first score.
Although the Panthers led 1-0 at half, Crested Butte tallied four goals in the second half to come from behind and claim a 4-1 win.
It was a similar scenario on Saturday against Telluride.
Andrew Laymon scored to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead at halftime, but again, their second half play allowed Telluride to take over.
The Miners controlled the tempo and the ball for most of the final half, finding the back of the net four times in the 4-1 victory.
Excellent saves by goal keeper Nate Baker kept Telluride from scoring even more.
The Panthers have two conference games remaining on their regular season schedule.
First, they host Alamosa on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m., then travel to Pagosa Springs on Tuesday, Oct. 20 for their final game.
