Dear Editor,
On April 23 members of the community were treated to snacks, free reuseable grocery bags and information about Reducing, Reuseing and Recycling our impact on the environment at the Calvin Denton Room. In addition, hundreds of Earth Day posters created by local students were shown and judged.
The event was sponsored by the local Green Party but was made possible by the following community minded sponsors: Walmart and manager Ron Knezek, City Market and Devin ONeal, Safeway and Bryan Howarton, each of whom donated hundreds of durable grocery sacks.
Our wonderful speakers were Deb Barton of the landfill, Ashton Hargrave of Four Corners Recycling, and Doug Sparks of Empire Electric. In addition Empire, the Ute Tribe and Waste Management contributed sacks. Coffee from Let it Grow Nursery, Spruce Tree Coffeehouse, and food from Walmart kept us going.
We in Montezuma County are blessed to live in a community where so many diverse groups join together for the betterment of us all and our planet.
Congratulations to all poster entrants, everyone is a winner along with Mother Earth, for whom we all are working. Thanks everyone.
