The Panthers had an early opportunity just four minutes in, after Kolby Waltman showed off some nifty footwork to get by an Alamosa defender.
Waltman pushed the ball ahead to Jesus Ruiz, who sent a one-touch pass to Andrew Laymon for a shot that barely sailed left of the goal post.
Shorty after, Laymon put up a beautiful pass on a throw in, but Skylar Yarbrough’s header was denied by Alamosa keeper Octavio Villasenor.
Alamosa’s offense then went on a run, scoring three goals in just 11 minutes to take a 3-0 lead.
But the Panthers’ leading scorer Manny Martinez got M-CHS on the board in the 23rd minute with a penalty-kick goal.
Martinez’ initial shot was blocked by the Alamosa keeper, but he couldn’t hold on to the ball. As it rolled freely in front of him, Martinez quickly moved forward and finished it off into the net for the Panthers’ first goal.
Alamosa would score again in the 30th minute to take a 4-1 lead into half time, and eight minutes in to the second half, they extended their lead to 5-1.
The Panthers attempted a comeback - with Martinez scoring twice more on assists by Laymon - but a number of late shots were just wide of the net in the final minutes and they lost 5-3.
M-CHS wraps up the regular season with its final game at Pagosa Springs on Tuesday.
