What: The first annual Very Scary Time Trial
Who: Montezuma Land Conservancy and the City of Cortez
When: Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m.
Where: The course will be the complete 9-mile “Beatles Tour” at the new Geer Memorial trails. Racers will depart from the Geer Memorial lot on Rd. L at one minute intervals beginning at 10 a.m.
Why: This is a fundraiser for the Montezuma Land Conservancy. All money raised at the event will be dedicated to a restricted fund to preserve lands with trails open to the public. The Montezuma Land Conservancy is in the process of establishing an easement on 50 acres with five plus miles of trail adjoining the city’s newly established Geer Memorial open space. This easement will ensure in perpetuity access for the public’s use and enjoyment of the property. This will help set a precedent for area land owners to open their property for the development of trails and share open spaces, ensuring public access for future generations! Ride for a good cause!
How it works: To be eligible for the race, riders must raise $30 through IndieGOGO at http://bit.ly/1Neydnn
You can raise this money one of two ways:
1. Riders can start riding any time starting now and attempt as many miles as possible before midnight October 30th. Get your friends to pledge a $1 per mile! Or more! If they pledge $1 per mile and you ride 30 miles that’s $30 towards the land conservancy.
2. If you want to race the day of and not raise money by riding the weeks before, you can pledge $30 yourself and be eligible for the October 31st race! We will verify your pledge amount prior to the race starting. Rider’s mileage must be verified by Strava.
