Durango woman gives up foot to resume active lifestyle

Choosing amputation was tough but proved to be right choice
Bee Morin climbs at Paradox Ice in Ouray County in February. Morin had her right foot amputated about a year ago after a bouldering accident shattered her ankle – temporarily robbing her of the outdoor lifestyle she loves.
“I love being outdoors,” says Bee Morin and that passion was the driving force that led her to amputate her shattered right ankle.
Today, Bee Morin walks unassisted with a prosthetic foot. In addition to an everyday prosthetic, she has a special claw-like device for ice climbing, and another for hiking. Soon, she’ll have a new electronic walking foot that adjusts heel height and changes with her gait, making uphill walking easier.
