Summit loan
A meeting of the stockholders of the Summit Reservoir and Irrigation company will decide whether the company will borrow $53,000 from the RFC to improve the system. The money, if the loan is taken, will be used to raise the dam at Summit reservoir to increase the storage capacity. There is seldom a water shortage under this system but it is deemed advisable to increase the capacity so that there will be absolutely no danger of water running low even in extremely dry years.
Murder witness dies
The last old timer who witnessed the murder of Bob Ford, slayer of the famous bandit Jesse James, is dead. Charley Stone, Creede old-timer who died in Pueblo a few days ago, was the last pioneer who witnessed the shooting of Ford in his Creede hangout in the roaring days of that mining camp.
Highway loan secured
Colorado borrowed $25 million to improve highways in the state. Highway 160 will be completed, it is stated, from the Kansas line to the Utah line, west of Dove Creek. All roads will be gravel surfaced and oiled. In many places there will be new grading and new alignment. Highway 160 will require a lot of new grading and many sections of it will be relocated. From the junction west of Cortez to Dove Creek will be practically all new construction. The building of good roads in Colorado is one of the wisest moves which could be made. It is estimated that the additional revenues derived from tourist travel through increased gasoline tax revenues will pay off the $25 million loan.
