Earthquake felt
An earthquake was felt by many persons in the Four Corners area starting at 11:23 p.m. Sunday night and lasting for a short time, shaking houses but doing little serious damage. The quake was felt as far away as Gallup, Farmington, Grants, Durango, Grand Junction, parts of Albuquerque, in addition to more local areas as Stoner, Lebanon, Dolores, Summit Ridge, Mancos and Cortez.
The quake lasted in all about 30 seconds and was centered about 38 miles southwest of Farmington, New Mexico in a scarcely populated area. The Caltech Seismological Laboratory said the tremor was a possible 5.0 but other reports had it at 4.4 on the Richter scale.
Community center gets approval
The board of trustees of Dolores gave their complete approval to plans being made by the Dolores Centennial Bicentennial committee to build a community building. Mrs. Cecile Taylor appeared before the board to explain how the money for the building could be raised and how they could obtain grants to help with construction.
