Nancy Hains’ fiber artwork will be on display at the Artisans of Mancos’ window display through January.
Born in Buffalo, New York, Hains headed to California, where she owned a picture-framing business for 32 years. In her spare time she kept made macramé and hand-made ceramic beads, then moved to northern California, where she acquired a vineyard and learned to make wine.
After acquiring sheep to solve a lawn-mowing problem, she found that they made good pets and wool – and her yarn business was born.
In 2010 Hains moved with her sheep to Colorado, bought a spinning wheel and has been spinning ever since. She weaves, knits and crochets with their wool, creating fiber art that includes an array of felting and fleece articles. Her wood is naturally antibacterial, she says, and is resistant to wrinkles, water, fire, dirt and fading.
