The Montezuma-Cortez basketball program had a rough weekend, with both its boys’ and girls’ teams dropping two consecutive games.
The Lady Panthers fell in road games to Monte Vista and Centauri, while the Panthers dropped away contests to Grand Junction Central and Grand Junction.
On Friday evening against Monte Vista (11-5), the Lady Panthers led 11-9 after the first quarter and went to the half tied at 17.
But the Pirates used a 24-6 third quarter advantage to pull away and go onto to a 55-34 win.
Then on Saturday against Centauri (14-2), the Lady Panthers were outscored in all four quarters, falling 62-34.
The Panthers were also on the road for two games this weekend.
On Friday, in Grand Junction Central (14-6) a slow start doomed M-CHS and the Warriors cruised to a 65-27 win.
Saturday’s contest against Grand Junction (17-4) was closer, but the Panthers fell, 66-59 for their tenth straight loss.
The Lady Panthers are now 7-9 on the season and the Panthers are 3-14, but both teams will look to come away with a win in a rivalry game at Durango on Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers will look to avenge a 49-26 loss to the Lady Demons (12-4) from earlier this season, while the Panthers – who fell to Durango 77-66 in their first meeting – hope to hand the Demons (11-6) their seventh loss of the season.
